Enter your baby's date of birth to see when each check-up is due.

This shows check-up ages only, not vaccines, which are set by your own country's health authority. Your invitations from the NHS, or your pediatrician's schedule in the US, decide the actual dates.

About This Calculator

Check-up schedules are set nationally, so this calculator offers two official lists: the NHS reviews in England and the American Academy of Pediatrics (Bright Futures) well-child visit ages. Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland run their own services and may time or label reviews differently, and other countries have their own programmes. Always follow the invitations and schedule you are given locally; the dates here are a guide, not a substitute for them.

In the UK, the NHS reviews (the 6 to 8 week check, the health visitor's new baby review and the red book) are set out in baby check-ups in the first months.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this calculator tell me which vaccines my baby needs?

No — deliberately not. Vaccination schedules are set by each country's health authority and differ between countries in timing and in which vaccines are included. This calculator only shows the ages at which check-ups are scheduled; for vaccines, use the vaccine schedule calculator for your country or ask your GP, health visitor or pediatrician.

Where do these checkup ages come from?

The UK list follows the NHS page on your baby's health and development reviews and the NHS newborn physical examination page: a physical examination within 72 hours of birth, a blood spot test at 5 to 8 days, a health visitor's new baby review within 10 to 14 days, a second physical examination at 6 to 8 weeks, and reviews at 9 to 12 months and at 2 to 2.5 years. The US list follows the Bright Futures / American Academy of Pediatrics periodicity schedule (February 2025): newborn, 3 to 5 days, by 1 month, then 2, 4, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 24 and 30 months and 3 years. The NHS list is for England; Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland run their own services, so follow the invitations you are sent.

What actually happens at a well-child visit?

According to the NHS, the 6 to 8 week check is a physical examination of your baby's eyes, heart, hips and (for boys) testicles, with weight, length and head circumference measured, and a GP or health visitor talks to you about vaccinations and asks how you have been feeling. The NHS says the 9 to 12 month and 2 to 2.5 year reviews look at development, and you are sent an Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ-3) to fill in beforehand. In the US, the AAP schedule lists a physical examination and length/height and weight at every visit from the newborn visit, and head circumference through 24 months.

What if I've missed a recommended checkup age?

In the UK, the NHS says that if your baby is between 6 and 8 weeks old and has not been offered the physical examination, you should tell your midwife, health visitor or GP. In the US, the AAP says that if any items are not accomplished at the suggested age, the schedule should be brought up to date at the earliest possible time, so call your pediatrician's office to reschedule.
